"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." - Helen Keller I truly believe that each creative soul has a different perspective from which to share a story, their own or the stories of others. I love to hear how those perspectives see, those that are different from mine. Conversations with other creatives energize me and I have long dreamt of collaborating with others. Several years ago I had a wild hair (pun intended) to throw together a Mad Hatter vendor shoot. I had no idea what I was doing and or what kind of direction to give, so we all just showed up for my crazy idea, waiting to see what would happen and how it would turn out. Of course the day of our outdoor shoot had freezing temperatures and was horribly windy, so our outdoor vendor shoot was not going to be outdoors. But it was meant to be; during the shoot, I found out that it was actually National Mad Hatter Day - what are the odds? There were six vendors in all and I had zero assistants or other photographers; the shoot took place in my dining room and despite all the obstacles, it was AWESOME! Here are a few shots from the shoot: This event thrilled me and I have been dying to put another together; more information coming soon! Styled shoots are going to be a big part of my business; hair, makeup, aesthetic details, location, and wardrobe. I have started to connect with other creatives who love to collaborate. This winter, I was able to meet with the wonderfully talented and beautiful Cameron Van Hoose of CVH Styling here in Omaha. Guys, she is gorgeous! And it was so wonderful to hear how, as a creative, she has her hands in several creative pots as well. We met for a chat at The Grove Juicery, where I learned that I am not cool enough to eat at The Grove Juicery - my palette wants more sugar and less health...help me mature people! I can't wait to go back and try more of their menu items - I absolutely looooved the avocado chocolate at the bottom of my parfait. Let me know what you have tried in the comments and I'll try it! I did also get to meet Meghann, who owns the place, which was such a treat for me! Back to Cameron...I have lots of plans for the coming years and I am looking for other creatives to collaborate with. If you have a local Etsy shop, a brick and mortar shop, if you're a florist or a designer, an event planner or another photographer, I would love to chat and see if our ideas align. I will be adding a tab to my website specifically for you to contact me about collaborating. There are so many reasons why your photos should have an element of design to them. I now know this from experience and guys, it's so hard! I was so happy to have help in designing our family's photos this year, which have been long overdue. I had my hair and makeup professionally done and I got a lot of help in designing our wardrobe. Because I fell in love with my skirt online and that's all I had for quite a while (palm to forehead). The photographer I found was amazing with my family and I love her style so much. What's funny to me is that while I love her style so much, we have very different end products in our businesses.
I was excited to share with Julie that I loved the photos she took of our family. As creatives, we need that. There are so many photographers and there is so much emotion wrapped up in our work, it's easy to feel insecure when another photographer is in our vicinity. But we all see things differently and those varied perspectives should be celebrated and shared! I can't wait to meet you all. Also, stay tuned for what's coming - subscribe to my email newsletter, follow me on Instagram and Facebook. Happy creating!
